Rachel Espinoza is an Akimel O'odham/Chicana artist living in Tucson Arizona. She is greatly influenced by the Far West Texas town of Alpine where she grew up with her mother, as well as the Arizona landscapes of her patrilineal ancestors. Mainly working in acrylic, her paintings are embellished with personal mementos and nods to the internet and mass media to create figurative pieces that incorporate a meaningful blend of contemporary culture and the infinity of ancestral stories.
When She Rises was a 10 week exhibit, opening Saturday, July 7th, 2018, with a global art market, public art, programming (panel discussions, screenings, workshops), and intergenerational and intersectional knowledge exchange through art at SPARC.
When She Rises is centered in the themes of social justice and ecology justice and will focus on the holistic wellness of the artist and her community.
